Three Rivers Community Band Festival
"Festival Band"
2010 marks the 7th annual Three Rivers Community Band Festival. We once again have a Festival Band comprised of musicians from over 30 bands in the greater Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Youngstown regions. The musicians will rehearse for the first time the morning of Festival under the baton of Denis Colwell, Associate Professor of Music at Carnegie Mellon University and Music Director for the Wind Ensemble.
Who are the musicians of the 2010 Three Rivers Community Band Festival "Festival Band" ?
- 69 Musicians from southwestern Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio and beyond.
- Over 2000 years of combined playing experience.
- Length of Time Musicians
have been playing
for:
- 5-10 years: 2 [2.9%]
- 10-20 years: 18 [26.1%]
- 20-30 years: 10 [14.5%]
- 30-40 years: 12 [17.4%]
- 40-50 years 9 [13%]
- Over 50 years 18 [26%]
- They play in over 35 community bands in Pennsylvania and Ohio (see below)
- 39% are new to the Festival Band
- 38% are not members of one of the other performing bands at this years Festival.
- 56% learned to play their instrument in the western PA area, while the other 44% learned to play all over the country
- 25 have only played with the
band they are currently in, while
the rest have played in at least 2 community bands.
- 13 are
now or were school music or band teachers [19%]
- 54 learned to play through a public school program [78%]
- 21 are active in the leadership of their bands
servings as members of the board, librarians, managers, directors, and
committee members.
